Abstract:
|
The goal of this presentation is to help advisors become more knowledgeable about veterans and former foster care students on college campuses. From there the presenter will incorporate counseling theories and Dr. William Glasser's Choice Theory to help advisors further assess the needs of their students: both with and without trauma in their backgrounds. Other counseling skills and techniques from Solution Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy, hope, and mindfulness will be discussed and incorporated. Case studies and mock situations will be included to help advisors work through ways to talk and help guide the student to resources as needed and build trust. |
