Abstract:

At our public institution, we find it is important to celebrate the success of our exploratory students with intentional, collaborative programming. Declaring a major is a significant milestone in a student's academic journey that should be celebrated. With our policy stating that students must declare their major by 45 credit hours, the emphasis of this capstone celebration is the immediate need for major declaration to our exploratory students. Our institution's annual initiative, iDeclare Week, is an example of how Academic Advisors and Career Counselors can work together to promote, encourage, and celebrate students' exploration of themselves, majors, and careers. Most importantly, iDeclare Week serves as a capstone event for our exploratory students and to emphasize that the time to declare their major is now. |
