Title: Inequality in Education for African American Males in the United States and What We Can Do
Lead Presenter: Jeffrey Herron
Date: October 01, 2018    Time: 7:15 am - 8:15 am
Room: N Ballroom 120 A-D
Abstract: African-American males are among the most underrepresented student populations on college campuses across the country. Scholar Cuyjet (2006) suggest that many factors hinder African American males' success at the college level such as predisposition to college, academic achievement, and interpersonal relationships. African American males' success in the classroom is not only important to the college or university they attend, but to the very fabric of the black community. Self-efficacy, resilience, academic advising and mentorship are all factors that positively influence black male student success. Effective academic advising and mentoring has been proven to have a significant impact on the development of students and enhance student success.
