Abstract:
|
In 2017, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill admitted its largest ever first year class of approximately 4275 students. 'I'm here! Now what?' Easing the First Year Registration Process will outline how and why the Academic Advising Program made the decision to pre-assign two courses to every first year student before fall course registration. Prior to attending summer Orientation, first year students were asked to fill out an academic interest survey where they shared preferences for their fall courses, including their top five First Year Seminar choices. After the academic interest survey was completed, academic advisors pre-assigned two courses to each student. This session will share highlights from the initial planning process through implementation, and finally will outline how assessment and review of student feedback informed changes for Orientation 2018. |
