Abstract:
|
As advisors who work with a population of high-achieving students, we regularly encounter students who believe stress is a negative emotion and a roadblock to academic success. However, research shows that stress has an upside that can positively impact students' motivation and academic outcomes. The work of Dr. Kelly McGonigal tells us that the key to ensuring stress affects one positively is one's stress mindset. In this presentation, we will use a positive psychology-informed approach to explain how advisors can empower students to view stress positively. Using role-playing and examples of language, our intent is to offer you a practical toolkit that you can apply to your advising practice right away. |
