Abstract:
|
In the trend towards predictive analytic systems in advising, this large undergraduate unit took a unique approach to developing a predictive tool. Using participatory action research that directly involved key members from both advising and research communities in the assessment and provisioning of information from predictive analytics, we created a tool that assesses risk for students in specific courses based on past coursework. Why is this participatory approach important? It acknowledges and uses advising knowledge, builds deeper advisor understanding of predictions, creates a better product with better buy-in, and helps create a bridge between advising and assessment and research. In this session we will provide an overview of our project, what we learned from this collaboration, as well as benefits of our participatory action research approach. |
