Abstract:
|
This session will discuss a model developed to embed holistic academic advising into general education curriculum for science students at a research university. After some broad reflection and inventory exercises in our first-year seminar, our students are challenged to apply their personal strengths, values, and wellness information to developing a plan to improve themselves over their time as undergraduates. Through a recursive, reflection process and face-to-face meetings, students discuss broad goals and aspirations with faculty advisors invested in student development across multiple dimensions including scholars, professionals, persons, and citizens. Participants will hear our timeline, successes, and lessons learned and have table-top discussions about the possibilities for implementing components of this model at their own institutions. |
