Abstract: "Successful training and development programs provide advisors with the opportunity to learn a range of advising concepts and skills, while also expanding their understanding of our students through self-development. This session will explore how advisor training and development programs can assist advisors in more effectively promoting student success through the development of their own personal and professional stories. The components involved in the design of a training and development program will be also examined, showcasing how the NACADA Academic Advising Core Competencies can be utilized as the foundation for advisor development. Attendees will leave this session equipped to enhance training and development in order to allow advisors to better understand themselves and their role in effectively guiding students.
