Abstract:
|
'I'm not smart enough,' 'No one else has been through this,' or 'My professors are all out to get me,' are all understandably common thoughts for students on academic probation. Being kicked out of college is a terrifying prospect and we advisors are tasked with seeing our students through this trying time. How do we provide support, encouragement, and a path forward for these students when they are the most vulnerable? This presentation uses Cynthia Demetriou's The Attribution Theory of Learning and Advising Students on Academic Probation as a springboard for moving from theory to practice. Using NACADA's core competencies and case studies, participants will leave with concrete ideas of how & when to use the Attribution Theory with their probation students. |
