Abstract:
|
Students' narratives are essential to powerful advising moments. All too often, however, transactional details-course selection, enrollment procedures, schedule conflicts-interfere with the advisor's ability to listen to the student's story. By incorporating resources from the field of design, we can improve this process. Design is a multisensory tool that uses content, visuals, and interactions to create engaging experiences. Academic advisors can learn basic design tools to co-create meaningful narratives with their students.
In this presentation, participants will learn how to interpret the qualitative, visualize the quantitative, and open a creative space for narrative making. Participants will leave with an understanding of design tools and techniques that can be implemented in everyday advising interaction. |
