Title: Do You Trust Me? What Leads to Trust in Academic Advisors
Lead Presenter: Elizabeth Kalinowski Ohrt
Date: October 01, 2018    Time: 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Room: N 132 A
Abstract: In the spring of 2017, students at a four-year, mid-Atlantic university completed the Advisor Trust Survey (n =1655) which provided data to determine what behaviors lead to perceptions of advisor trustworthiness. Quantitative analysis identified key behaviors and the preferred advising approach for building trust with advisees. Differences for first- and continuing-generation students were identified.

This session will review the behaviors and the advising approach that study findings suggest are most effective for building trust. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss in small groups possible application of findings to practice and suggestions for further research.
