Title: Why Do Academic Advisors Leave?
Lead Presenter: Marvin Gabut
Date: October 01, 2018    Time: 7:15 am - 8:15 am
Room: N Ballroom 120 A-D
Abstract: To help in the understanding of ourselves as academic advisors, the purpose of this presentation is to provide attendees with an opportunity to contemplate why they are in the academic advising profession and why do they stay. This presentation will look at the current literature on various topics to understand the impact of employee turnover on an organization and the impact of organizational initiatives on employee retention. As academic advisors are the one consistency for students, attendees will also explore relationships that show how high turnover of academic advisors may affect student retention. Attendees will also be presented with results from ongoing surveys that look at why current advisors stay and why former advisors left the profession.
