Title: Campus Stories in Academic Advising: Guiding the Narratives of Cultural Artifacts
Lead Presenter: Derek Furukawa
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Room: N 132 A
Abstract: Cultural artifacts may express a variety of messages at colleges and universities both intentionally and unintentionally. Whether a statue or a song or something else, these artifacts carry with them inherent meaning. Regardless of the intent of these messages, some artifacts may convey positive or negative connotations to the campus community. This program highlights the role of academic advisors in communicating the meaning of artifacts to students along with sharing the experience of being a part of the campus community with them. These shared experiences are what advisors can use to create a stronger connection and camaraderie with their students.
