Abstract:
|
At many large higher education institutions, a growing priority is to streamline the transfer student experience. One of the most significant challenges in doing so is caused by the decentralized frameworks that exist at many 2-year and 4-year institutions. As a result of organizational structure, information sharing and collaboration between partner institutions is often hindered. The end result poses a risk to providing the optimal transfer experience for students. Identifying the need to enhance lines of communication, grassroots parties from George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College aligned to enact change and bridge the gap between the academic advising structures at both institutions.
Attendees will leave this presentation with a set of strategies for creating and/or fostering relationships with advisors at partner institutions that centers on a culture of advising excellence, transparent communication, and student support. |
