Abstract:

Peer mentoring has been presented many times at previous NACADA conferences. Nearly every presentation touts the value of a peer mentor program as being a low-cost, high-impact activity. However, in the mesmerizing allure of dollar signs, we often miss the impact on the students participating in the activity. This session specifically looks at peer mentor programs in the context of their impact on student retention and leadership development. The presenters will provide examples from their own programs to show how the impact on student satisfaction is worth far more than the initial intended outcomes of increased retention. |
