Abstract:
|
For international students who are on academic probation, recessed, or dismissed, the prospects for persistence and graduation are perilous. As the largest single international student population, the academic performance and challenges of Chinese international students are significantly to underlying personal and social characteristics. Success comes from institutional initiatives that are tailored to address those characteristics. This session will introduce the characteristics and connect them to lower measures of academic performance and examine students' perceptions of their situations. Through very different lenses of three close allies, a seasoned senior academic advisor, an international students office advisor with four decades of working with at-risk youth, and an experienced cultural assistant-PhD candidate, this presentation covers current best practices and an exemplar for scholarly research. |
