Title: Authoring Peer Mentor Development
Lead Presenter: Tiffany Lara
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Room: N 229 A/B
Abstract: "Peer Mentors have become integral for academic advisors by decreasing attrition rates for students of low-income, first-generation backgrounds. Peer Mentors assist academic advisors by strategically providing personal and academic support to students. They directly impact the narrative of the students they serve by encouraging students to become active participants in their academic journey, sharing self-advocacy skills, and role modeling success strategies. However, they themselves are also undergoing personal development as college students. This presentation will provide a narrative of holistic approaches and curriculum development to help supervisors enhance professional development by employing the theory of Self-Authorship, StrengthsFinder© by Gallup, and National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competencies for their student staff.
