Abstract:
|
"This presentation will showcase the ways one small, private, liberal arts university significantly re-envisioned their advising and mentoring model in support of new institutional vision. Participants will learn about the institutional cultural contexts that necessitated the need to consider new advising and mentoring approaches. They will understand how Furman defines the role of advisors and mentors and consider how they may apply those concepts at their own institutions. They will be given access to Furman's Academic Advising Guide and examine how it will be used in guiding advising conversations. Participants will learn about the intentional training, development, and assessment models that resulted from this new advising and mentoring approach as well as the resulting Pathways advising and mentoring pilot model and impact it has had on students through related assessment results.
