Title: Enhancing Student Connection: A Step-by-Step Approach to Creating a Pre-Advising Orientation for Online Students
Lead Presenter: Amy Kitchens
Date: October 03, 2018    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: N 232 A/B
Abstract: Making that initial connection with new students can be a challenge but even more so in the online format. With the continued growth in enrollment, and time and resources becoming limited, the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering has developed a student self-paced online orientation where students learn about College resources and services. This then allows advisors to create a more personal connection in the initial appointment by decreasing the amount of time on prescriptive topics. The development and creation of the orientation used an agile methodology approach. This presentation will demonstrate how advisor and student feedback influenced a phased implementation. To ensure this orientation achieved its goal, we also measured advisor appointments outcomes over a six month timeframe.
