Title: The Relationship Between College Advising & Student Outcomes
Lead Presenter: Avery Olson
Date: October 02, 2018    Time: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Room: N 231 A/B
Abstract: The purpose of this presentation is to present the findings from a two-part study which explores the trends in what we know about advising and the relationship between various forms of postsecondary advising practices and student outcomes. Using content analysis, the first-part examined peer reviewed journals over the past 10 years in order to determine the trends in where and how academic advising has been examined. The second part used social network analysis to visually examine the relationship between advising practices and various outcomes. Ultimately, the study intended to determine the story the collective journals reveal about advisors and identify narratives that still need to be told. The goal of this presentation is to engage audience members in discussion regarding missing narratives about advisors.
