Title: The Art of Saying No in a Customer Service Environment
Lead Presenter: Emily Creamer

Room: N 129 A/B
Abstract: Retention and student satisfaction are key elements to a successful university. However, admission to a university does not guarantee admission into a competitive, professional major. Academic advisors face challenges every day related to balancing good customer services with advising/coaching students who desire majors that have academic requirements that they may never meet. What happens when students do not grasp that they will never meet the requirements to enter a competitive program? How can advisors help students to come to 'ah-ha' moments to choose another major? A panel of advising experts will discuss how customer service theory collides with advising theories while reflecting on best practices with advising in competitive, professional majors. To interact with the audience, the panel will provide an interactive Q&A.
