Presenter: Laura Ivins, Indiana University Bloomington
Technology is becoming increasingly embedded in the practice of advising, whether through online recordkeeping systems, online calendar management, case management tools, and the increased pressure utilize data in advising.
With systems and practices changing rapidly, it can feel overwhelming to keep up, and advisors often feel that the pressure to use technology is distracting from the core of advising: interpersonal interactions with students.
In this workshop, I'll demonstrate strategies for incorporating technology productively into advising practice, asking users to engage with examples from their own campus ecosystems. During the session, advisors will learn tips for:
1. learning a new interface and getting acclimated quickly,
2. overcoming intimidation of new, complicated systems,
3. how to make technology work in the service of advising, rather than distracting from your core mission.
Attendees should leave the workshop with practical strategies to increase their confidence with technology and work more productively with it. |
