Platform
Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? As Chair for 2014-2015, my goal is to establish an active Commission Steering Committee in keeping with NACADA goals to "develop and sustain effective Association leadership" and "provide professional development opportunities that are responsive to the needs of advisors and advising administrators." Additionally, I would hope to accomplish an updated Commission description, Mission Statement, Goals, and Objectives aligned with the NACADA strategic goals that would help guide the Commission. I see this best occurring through active, on-going communication and transparency, which I am committed to providing.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
I believe that if you see a need, you do what you can to meet that need. I see academic advisors as a hub, connecting students, faculty, and others across campus communities. For that reason I am most proud of the things that I think illustrate my commitment to these groups, to meeting their needs where and when I can. As a past Student Club Advisor of the Year at UVU, I am proud of my relationship with students in both a traditional Liberal Arts discipline (Philosophy) and in the Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts (Gender Studies). As a second term serving co-chair for the UVU College of Humanities and Social Sciences Advisors group, I am proud of my relationship with other staff and peers with whom I work closely day-to-day. I am also proud of my work as a Steering Committee member in the Theory, Philosophy, and History Commission, working with other members of NACADA, from whom I have much to learn. I am honored to be a part of many committees, and I see my continued invitation to...

I believe the best leaders are the best listeners, and the most willing to get their hands dirty with the work to meet the needs of the group. I am striving to be that kind of leader, but also that kind of colleague, friend, and advisor--because I think we ought never fully reach that goal, but rather should focus on the journey toward it.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I think the Liberal Arts Advisors Commission needs someone willing to devote their energy to a space of flourishing. I am interested in serving others and in meeting needs, as previously stated. I see the Liberal Arts as a critical foundation for higher education. In this sense, they are relevant to all advisors and the Commission serves a vital function connecting advisors to that foundation. Upon that foundation, I am invested in building a solid vision for the Commission, looking for innovative ideas that can enhance our practice and position as advisors in and for the Liberal Arts.
