Abstract:
|
While numerous articles have been written to explore the relevance of servant-leadership to advising, little has been done to address what it means to practice servant-advising. This workshop provides participants with an opportunity to understand the principles and learn and practice the skills associated with advising based on servant-leadership. Through interactive and engaged learning experiences participants will explore how to increase their awareness, manage their motives, maintain their focus, and practice the leadership skills of relationship building, compassionate communication, positive coaching, and community building and positive coaching.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of this workshop participants will
1) Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practices of servant-leadership
2) Understand the relevance of servant-leadership to academic advising
3) Practice the skills associated with servant-advising |
