Abstract:
|
Academic advising is complex, and advisors are uniquely positioned to observe, interpret, and improve the intersection of students and academic systems. As higher education continues to evolve, shaped by policy, politics, and innovation, the work of advising has become increasingly multifaceted. This session introduces Practitioner Inquiry, a reflective, data-informed model traditionally used in K-12 education and explores how it can be adapted to support continuous improvement in individual academic advising practice. Participants will examine advisor-led inquiry cycles, including the development of professional "wonderings," data collection strategies, and actions taken to inform changes in their own advising. Through guided activities, attendees will develop personalized inquiry wonderings to initiate cycles of reflection and improvement at their home institutions, supporting intentional, evidence-informed professional growth in their own advising practice. |
