Abstract:
|
This session aims to provide attendees with ideas for enhancing new advisor training for their home advising units. It provides an overview of a comprehensive training program developed at a large public R1 campus in 2023, which can be adapted to fit a wide variety of other institutional contexts. This ongoing training program covers a new advisor's first year, providing ongoing support and early professional growth opportunities. The presenter will give attendees the context for why this comprehensive training program was designed, cover the essential elements of it, and give more detail about two specific trainings that are easily transferable across advising contexts. Additionally, attendees will be given time to generate their own ideas for enhancing new advisor training through a think-pair-share style small group activity. |
