Abstract:

A Pop-Punk Approach to Self-Care: Tackling Toxic Positivity in the Workplace
Can you name a more iconic duo than a higher education employee (HEE) and extreme burnout? No? We thought not. Often listed as one of the driving forces for HEEs to leave the field, burnout is a severe threat to institutions of higher education whether administrators want to admit it or not. While some may argue that there is always more personnel waiting in the wings for opportunities to jump into the fray, the exodus of HEEs causes a brain drain and an extreme loss of knowledge for institutions. But why? Why does it have to be this way? Our hypothesis: toxic positivity. Join us as we tackle self-care with a pop-punk spin and validate that it's okay to be "not okay." |
