Abstract:
|
First- and second-year students are particularly vulnerable to academic disengagement, often before midterms reveal risk. This session presents a structured Early Alert system that identifies at-risk students during Weeks 3, 6, 9, and 12 and pairs faculty referrals with intrusive advising interventions. Advisors implement individualized Academic Success Plans and coordinate "Midterm Push" and "Final Push" campaigns to support seat-time completion, assignment recovery, and overall course progression. Attendees will learn the four-phase model, review outcome data on D/F/W rates and retention, and see how proactive advising strengthens academic momentum. This framework provides scalable strategies for advisors, faculty partners, and student success professionals seeking to improve persistence, accountability, and engagement among first- and second-year students across diverse institutional contexts. |
