Abstract:
|
When a new advisor joins a team, they learn about how to interact with students through the ways their supervisors and colleagues interact with them. To create an environment where team members share responsibility for thriving (Propst Cuevas et al., 2025), this session provides practical applications for implementing a strengths-based approach to strengthen onboarding practices. Participants will learn tools for integrating Appreciative Administration strategies (Bloom and McClellan, 2016; Elsberry, 2022) with an Onboarding Delivery Model (Stien and Christiansen, 2010) to create an onboarding experience that leverages the strengths of the new employee, the supervisor, and the team the new hire is joining. Participants will learn practical tools and lessons learned through the story of how one Student Success unit redesigned its onboarding process through an Appreciative lens. |
