Abstract:
|
Visa revocations. Social media screenings. Travel bans. Under the current administration, both prospective and current international students have been subject to restrictive immigration policies and aggressive enforcement actions. Resultantly, new international student enrollment has declined, while continuing students report heightened feelings of isolation and withdrawal from their campus community.
To holistically support an increasingly vulnerable international student population, advisors must be prepared to integrate cultural responsiveness into their work. Through interactive group discussions and scenario-based activities, this presentation will introduce culturally responsive approaches to facilitating international student success. Examples include: centering cultural humility in advising, building partnerships with international educators, and developing specialized, cross-cultural programming.
This presentation is open to all advisors, especially those who are interested in international student advocacy. |
