Abstract:
|
As academic advisors, we sometimes feel like center of support for students. If the center holds the base of student success, this "all things to all people" model, can be overwhelming, taxing, and thus ineffective. We will demonstrate how you can implement valuable structural support through a team approach, wherein different facets of student struggle can be addressed by their most organic and effective role models. We will show how these positions interrelate for the best academic and social outcomes for students. What may be surprising, is how the professional advisor's capacity to help students explore self, major, and career, becomes central, and this freedom to explore rather than explain, solves a common problem for first year students, who may need a deeper dive into why they came to college in the first place. |
