Title: Would you take candy from a stranger? Unwrapping "Lollipop Moments" of Everyday Advising
Lead Presenter: Cami Christopulos
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: Taking candy from a stranger doesn't sound safe, or even wise, but what if it changed your life? This session explores the concept of "lollipop moments" from Drew Dudley's TEDTalk, "Everyday Leadership", and invites advisors to reflect on the often-unseen impact they have on others. It is the small, meaningful moments with advisors that shape students' lives in lasting ways. Various advising theories and models, along with NACADA's relational Core Competencies, will illustrate how these high-impact relational moments can be fostered within advising spaces. This introspective and interactive presentation will engage attendees to recognize and share "lollipop moments" while learning about relational advising behaviors to utilize in their practice. Advisors will craft a tangible takeaway to center their purpose and unwrap a wealth of possibilities for their students and institutional partners.
