Title: Reelin' in the Generations: Academic Advising in a Multi-Generational World
Lead Presenter: Sarah Chabinak
Date: October 29, 2025    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: Neopolitan IV, Promenade Level
Abstract: Much research has been done about the seven generations born since 1900, with stereotypes and nostalgia abounding. This session will focus on the four generations currently populating our American higher education institutions (Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z) as well as a preview of the next generation coming soon to a campus near you (Gen Alpha). Let's examine some of the stereotypes and focus on how we can use the strengths and preferences of each generation for pleasant and productive advising and workplace relationships, supporting students of all generations as we gather up the years and stow away the time!
