Abstract:

Advisors today must intentionally foster belonging and connection for students navigating increasingly complex academic and social environments. This session introduces integrated strategies from humanistic, appreciative, and culturally responsive advising to empower student connection. Participants will learn how active listening and dialogue can transform advising into a partnership that values each student's lived experiences. This session will address offering practical examples of how advisors can build relational trust, address barriers, and advocate for marginalized students. Through discussion and resource sharing, attendees will leave equipped with techniques to enhance students' sense of belonging. The session's collaborative approach models best practices for cultivating authentic, student-centered relationships in advising. |
