Abstract:
|
This session explores how proactive advising can balance empowerment with clearly communicated expectations to strengthen student accountability. Titled Empowerment with Expectations: Strengthening Student Accountability Through Proactive Advising, the presentation reframes accountability as a developmental practice that supports, rather than diminishes, student agency. Participants will examine a practical advising framework that integrates early outreach, structured expectation-setting, and consistent follow-up to promote shared responsibility in the advising relationship. Through guided reflection and applied case analysis, attendees will identify strategies to help students connect their academic choices with institutional standards and long-term goals. This session aligns with the theme Meeting in the Middle: Connecting People, Purpose, and Possibility by demonstrating how advisors can bridge student aspirations and institutional expectations to foster ownership, persistence, and meaningful student success. |
