Abstract:
|
Maryland's ABCs for Student Success-a $4 million U.S. Department of Education grant-implements coaching-informed peer mentoring across 11 University System of Maryland institutions serving 130,000 students. This lightning round candidly examines implementation challenges from the first two years: multi-institutional coordination balancing system-wide standards with campus autonomy; distinguishing non-academic peer mentoring from traditional tutoring; peer mentor recruitment, training, and retention at scale; evaluation fidelity via quasi-experimental design; and integration with existing advising structures. Attendees gain practical strategies for overcoming these obstacles, building sustainable programs, and positioning peer mentors as connectors between students, advisors, and resources. Interactive Q&A addresses scalability for diverse contexts, offering advisors actionable insights to extend their impact through evidence-based peer support. |
