Abstract:
|
Advisors often support students through grief, crisis, and significant life transitions, yet their own experiences of loss and burnout are rarely addressed. This session explores how personal grief, extended leave (e.g., FMLA), and temporary loss of professional passion can impact advising presence, confidence, and motivation. Drawing from professional practice, reflective practice theory, and research on compassion fatigue and vocational identity, participants will engage in guided reflection and discussion to identify strategies for sustaining empathy, maintaining boundaries, and re-engaging with professional purpose. Through storytelling, interactive exercises, and evidence-informed approaches, this session equips advisors with practical, adaptable tools to navigate personal and professional challenges while supporting students effectively. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to foster resilience, well-being, and professional fulfillment in their advising roles. |
