Abstract:
|
In Spring 2022, Augsburg University's Academic Advising Department began offering ACA195: Topics: Promoting Academic Student Success (PASS) for academically at-risk students. While traditional academic probation classes frequently focus solely on student performance, ACA195 unpacks Tema Okun's White Supremacist Culture in higher education. It introduces characteristics such as Individualism, Perfectionism, and the Either/Or Binary as unseen barriers. With this grounding framework, students learn how to strengthen skills in goal setting, study skills, time management, self-care, communication, campus resources, and navigating imposter syndrome. Since its start, Augsburg University continues to see strong numbers in student academic recovery and retention. In this session, we will share our curriculum, student performance results, and facilitate a dialogue on how academic advisors can better support our student populations in naming and reframing systemic obstacles to academic success. |
