Abstract:
|
Does this sound familiar? 'I've known since I was eight years old that I wanted to be a doctor!' Students who have committed to a career or major without exploration or research can be defined as foreclosed. The foreclosed student could be described as misinformed, confused, perhaps even stubborn (Marcia, 1966). Advising a pre-health foreclosed student presents many different challenges and complexities. For some students when the realization that their chosen health career path may not be possible hits there can be identity crisis and challenging advising conversations. Our presentation will help advisors learn how to identify and pivot pre-health foreclosed students to new opportunities and options. We will discuss how our office utilizes advising technology to provide a wraparound approach to career exploration. |
