Title: Zooming in to Challenging Discussions: Creating Space and Facilitating Community in a Virtual Environment
Lead Presenter: Loren Papin
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Room: 205, DECC
Abstract: Virtual environments can lead to feelings of isolation and present a challenge to connect, build trust and develop community. The need for a safe space for advisors is even more critical when it comes to addressing topics such as race, trauma, and social justice.

At our large, decentralized institution, we developed a PD series focusing on topics of race and trauma. Advisors participated in small groups, committing to a semester, to watch various webinars or videos and discuss the topics in these groups. Participants reported positive experiences and a desire to continue.
In this session, participants will learn more about the model, implementation, and be challenged to brainstorm how to use at their home institution.
