Lead Presenter: Kathy Stockwell
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Room: Jr. Ballroom D, DECC
Abstract: Advisor training and development is a crucial part of advisor onboarding and continual learning. But, is it training or professional development? The goal of both activities is to improve the knowledge and performance of our advisors. When we offer learning opportunities to our advisors, we often use these terms interchangeably. But, are they the same or is there a difference? If so, what is the difference, and how do we apply that to advisor learning?

This presentation will focus on the similarities and differences between training and professional development. The importance of their connection to the NACADA Core Competencies will be emphasized, with examples of activities for each. Several exercises will promote the importance of each one, with take-aways for future planning at your institution.
