Abstract:

Predicting Hmong Students' Satisfaction with Academic Advising
Research has documented the critical role of engagement with academic advising on student success in college. Given the importance of satisfaction with the advising experience on increased engagement with advising, the current study examines predictors of students' satisfaction with advising for Hmong students. Sample included 295 undergraduate Hmong students from a large, public university on the west coast of the U.S. Participants completed the Academic Advising Inventory online via Qualtrics. Results indicate that where they received their advising, who they received advising from, and the type of advising they received are significant predictors of satisfaction with various aspects of the advising experience. These findings have important implications for how academic advisors, advising administrators, and institutional leaders support the advising needs of Hmong students on their campuses. |
