Abstract:
|
Where did the good energy go? Black advisers recharging their energy at HPWIs.
Energy helps to sustain Black advisors at predominantly historically White institutions (PHWIs), but experiences of racial microaggressions can make it difficult to regain that energy. These overt and covert incidents of subtle slights deplete energy and force advisors to recharge. This critical qualitative research will focus on recharging as a process to protect their well-being. The goal is to understand what recharging is for advisors and why it is so crucial. With college campuses often being isolating and challenging for Black students, staff, and faculty, examining recharging through the lens of Critical Race Theory (CRT) will help to better understand barriers for advisors. This presentation concludes with a discussion and activity concerning overall well-being. |
