Mapping the Advising Ecosystem at a Small Liberal Arts College
When navigating their college education, many students engage with a variety of faculty and staff to guide their educational planning. Although each student is assigned an official adviser, students may also access related resources, such as career counseling, or may seek guidance elsewhere. To better understand where academically-oriented advising is happening on our small, liberal arts campus, we mapped the advising ecosystem by consulting with campus constituencies - students, faculty, and staff - and created an interactive map to visualize our current situation. The resulting map is the first step in a two-year process of evaluation to strengthen the academic advising program and structure. In addition to learning about the project, presentation participants will have access to the mapping tools for use at their institutions. |
