Streamlining New Student Orientation: Removing Stress and Preparing Students for Their New Endeavor
New student orientation is one of the most daunting tasks academic advisors undertake each year. Properly preparing students is crucial for their success, but several factors make orientation stressful - both for students and staff.
Our advising office has revamped the new student orientation program. Orientation is leaner, focusing on essential pieces that students need for day one, and students are pre-registered for classes, expediting the registration process.
During this session, we aim to share the work we have completed, specifically discussing the move from presenting to gamification, expanding orientation from a one-time event to a series that continues throughout the first semester, and efforts to reduce registration-related stress. We also want to hear what you are doing to prepare students for success. |
