Presentation Info and Handouts
Conference Year: 2021
Session #: 280(LEC)
Title: Working Together to Improve the Transition Student Experience
Lead Presenter: Corinne Cook
Date: October 09, 2021    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: 205, DECC
Abstract: In large university systems, current students applying to selective majors experience challenges similar to those of transfer students. In support of efforts to increase enrollment and become more "transfer-friendly," we formed a Transition Team to explicitly support these students and their advisors. This session will share how our Transition Team is working to make one college a more welcoming place for its prospective change of major and campus change students. We hope to demonstrate how front-line advising professionals can band together to impact their organization by sharing our team's work through the lens of Kotter's eight stage model for transformative change. The session will include time for participants to engage with the first steps of Kotter's process to identify an opportunity for change within their organization and identifying the possible coalition members for that work.
