Title: Creating Harmony: Connecting Advisement and FYS Programming
Lead Presenter: David Henriques
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: Exhibit Hall A
Abstract: As the largest first-time student major, the exploratory program's impact on institutional retention (and finances) is significant. Development, implementation, and the results from the 2-year pilot linking a 1-credit FYS course and a linked intrusive advisement model will be discussed and shared. Pilot costs will also be shared. In addition, results from student surveys collected immediately after completing the course and 1-year later will be shared. Discussion will focus on the pilot's impact on retention trends, credit completion rates, first semester GPA, and pass rates for core courses. There will be a PowerPoint presentation used to guide the presentation while pursuing the stated objectives. During this presentation, there will be opportunities to discuss the data, results, implementation, and short comings.
