Abstract: Academic Advisors Do What!? The influence of a self-study on practice and community

This presentation shares findings from a Self-study on Academic Advising, the learning process, and the influence of this study on advising practices. Through an interactive presentation including small-group Q&A and discussions, this session informs: academic advising models, strategic planning, and research and assessment. The presenters invites participants to:
1. identify and contrast key challenges related to the development and implementation of an academic advising framework
2. describe and illustrate foundational and innovative best practices in supporting students
3. appraise and prioritize how to use collaboration as a strategy for student-centered responses to institutional change.

This session recognizes the challenges created by different perspectives, the time required for a collaborative process, and current financial constraints faced by many post-secondary institutions.
