Title: Handing Advisors the Reins: Establishing Campus Advising Communities to Impact Change
Lead Presenter: Corinne Cook
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: 207/208, DECC
Abstract: The charge was straightforward: establish campus-level Advising Communities (ACs) under the umbrella of our university-wide advising association to create opportunities for advisors to connect around shared interests, experiences, and goals. We knew we wanted these groups to be relevant to our university context and create new pathways for leadership; more than that - we wanted to empower our community members to solve problems for themselves and their students. Now, we have a growing network of advisors who want to do more to impact sustainable change at our university. We'll share how we established our four inaugural communities, what we accomplished in our first year and a half, and our hopes for how other campuses, regardless of their size or structure, might benefit from establishing ACs to engage small groups in impacting change across their institutions.
