Abstract: Help Me Help You: How Appreciative Inquiry Reimagined Advising at One Institution
Advising leadership and advisors are faced with rampant change initiatives on campus that may not seek out advisor knowledge or incorporate advisor experiences in making decisions, ultimately fueling change fatigue and burnout. Appreciative Inquiry (AI) frameworks provide an alternative to deficit approaches of change leadership where all levels of an organization are incorporated into the change making process. AI allows us to discover our positive core, to understand who we are when we function at our best. It allows us to create a shared dream of who we want to become. It provides space to design our hopeful future so we may achieve our destiny together. This presentation focuses on how one institution leveraged AI frameworks to reimagine advising practice on campus.
